Chasing a particular green
There is a green I keep seeing in the shallows on a bright day, somewhere between glass and moss. I have been trying to get it into a glaze for months.
Small steps
Glaze is a slow conversation. You change one thing, fire a test tile, and wait a day to see what the kiln says back. Too much ash and the green goes grey and matt. Too little and it slides towards a flat teal that could be anyone’s.
This week's batch
I ran five tiles with the seaweed ash climbing in small steps. The third one was close. It has a soft break over the throwing lines, so the colour pools where the pot curves and thins at the edges. That movement is the whole point.
Keeping notes
I used to trust my memory and lose the good ones. Now every tile gets a number and a line in the book. When a batch lands, I want to be able to find my way back to it.
Still not quite the shallows on a bright day. Closer than last month though.
