A kettle and two other makers

The studio is an old net loft on Quay Road, up a steep stair with a view of the water. I share it with two other makers, and I would not go back to working on my own.

The building

It used to store fishing nets, which is where the name comes from. The floor is uneven, the light is good, and on a rough day you can hear the sea against the wall. It is cold in winter and perfect the rest of the year.

Sharing it

Working near other people changes how you make. When a firing goes wrong there is someone to groan with. When a glaze lands there is someone to show. We share the kettle, the odd tool, and a lot of opinions about each other’s pots.

Visitors

I take visits by appointment. It is a working room, dusty and full of pots at every stage, which is honestly the best way to see how any of this is made. If you would like to come up, send me a message.
