Sea tones, thrown by hand
in an old net loft.
I am Morwenna. I make stoneware on the wheel and glaze it with ash from local seaweed, so every piece carries a little of this coast.
Thrown on the wheel
Every pot is turned by hand in the studio, one at a time. No moulds, no two quite alike.
Seaweed ash glazes
I gather seaweed from the shore, burn it, and work the ash into the glazes. It gives the sea tones their depth.
Made in small batches
Pieces come out of the kiln a handful at a time, so the shop and the shelves change often.
The signature
Glazed with ash from local seaweed
Sea tones are my thing. The colour does not come from a bottle. I collect seaweed from the beach below the studio, dry it, burn it, and sieve the ash into my glazes.
Each batch of ash is a little different, so the greens and greys shift from firing to firing. That is the part I like. A mug from spring will not match one from autumn, and it is not meant to.
